Latest News about Pau as of 1st April 2008

Mark Campbell has just been out to Pau to check out the details about our Historic Aston Martin race at this year’s Historic Grand Prix.  he reports that everything is looking very encouraging – with Astons being the featured marque, we have the prime spot in the timings. We also have good relations with the Mayor and the two  classic car clubs in the town who help with the race. The town is magnificent and the track runs right through the best bits (see aerial view below with the track highlighted).

The race

A 1 hour  race for one or two drivers  at 2.30 on Sunday 25th May

Practice at 2.00 pm on Saturday 24th

A National A licence required

Sign on/scrutineering TBC ( probably Sat morning?)

Entry fee  confirmed as £560

Support

We hope to have a good range of Awards for all classes

We will have ‘Aston hospitality’ in our pit area which is the main and best pit area for the track

We have a gang of English helpers to support our paddock and other activities

There is a the chance of a special Aston display in the town on Friday (TBA)

More updates as available

Hotels

I have 5 rooms reserved in a lovely B+B just out of town ideal for families and partners ( about 50 euros per night) I have also reserved 17 mixed rooms at the Hotel  Roncevaux - ( mention Aston Martin and my name). Rooms from  75 euros.

Accommodation is going fast as this is a big motoring fest and the place will be busy. There are plenty of other hotels in Town which is the best bet as they will be close to the track. The pits are near the railway station !!!

Other entertainments

We are planning to have a get together on Friday and Sunday nights which i will contact all those going about. This will be set up by our contacts in Pau who are keen to help us. The Mayor is likely to put on a dinner on Saturday night in the town for drivers.

Transport

the 3 best options are

Plymouth - Santander Ferry  ( about 1 day on the boat and  £500 )

Fly direct from Stansted or Bristol

Drive down from Dover or Portsmouth ( 650 miles in France)

There are some transport companies taking cars if you decide to fly.

We need 25 - 30 Astons on the grid to make the race pay and we still need a few more cars so please encourage yourself and  others to join in!

There will be races for  1960 GT cars as well
